Andonis

Constantine and I arrived in Milos after back-to-back weeks of weddings. Constantine was truly along for the ride. Whatever I did he was tagging along. Coming to Milos I had two things booked: a hotel and our full-day yacht cruise. That was it. I had all the beaches and restaurants on my Milos Google Map list but really needed to distill that list down into what are we actually going to do. We were able to do it all in the time we spent. However, I had some local help…. We flew from Athens to Milos and had arranged a transfer to the hotel. Our flight was a little delayed, so I asked Constantine to wait (and carry my luggage ;) while I went out to find the transfer. There stood Andonis with a sign with our last name on it. Andonis was kind and helped me when I got stuck with my Greek and vice versa. When he learned it was our first time to Milos, he decided to talk, in English, the entire way to the hotel about what we could do depending on our interests. After getting to the hotel, he added me on WhatsApp and said I will send you everything we discussed. The next day I had a three-scroll text message from Andonis. He didn’t have to do that. It’s small gestures like these that make the difference. I think that is these types of simple gestures that American’s experience in Greece is part of what makes them fall in love with Greece the way all of us descendants do- outside of the natural beauty and the food. Andonis was proud to be Greek. Proud to be from Milos. Proud to share life on Milos with us.

Below is a compilation of Milos. Some of the most beautiful beaches.
